The Food Of Hell From Indonesia

Famous as one of the best tropical countries, Indonesia provides tons of uniqueness and excitement. Its nature, culture, and art always bring millions of tourist each year. However, this time we are going to talk about one thing, Indonesia’s cuisine, in particular Sambal.
Sambal or sambel is infamous among tourist as the food of hell for its undeniable ability to make the consumer produces tears and sweat when eating. Produced using chili as its main ingredient, sambal is indeed taste extremely spicy.
Sambal is made by grinding ‘cabai’ or chili, along with several complements such as onion, cherry,  tomato, ‘terasi’, sugar, and salt. The ingredients are grinded using traditional tool made usually from wood or plastic. The texture is smooth with a vibrant color of green and red, depending on which chili you use.
Infamous among tourists for its spiciness, many tourists avoid it. However, some of them are challenged and try to eat it. Those who dare to try usually will get stomach ache or turn very red and sweaty in the face. Though super spicy, locals eat it in almost daily basis as their main meal.

Besides benefits, in the Indonesian, there are as many type of sambal.The intensity ranges from mild to very hot. Some varieties include: sambal andaliman, sambal bajak, sambal balado, sambal buah, sambal dabu-dabu, etc.


How to process : 
Different types of sambal are recognized in the wider community. The most popular is sambal terasi. From the name alone we can already guess that this sambal uses terasi as an additional ingredient. Most places to eat add lime to add the scent should and strengthen the taste. Anything that makes sambal with extra tomato so it feels not too spicy. Those who are not too strong with spicy flavor will generally choose a tomato sauce to complement their meal.
To make a sambal there are some people use ulekan media or partly using blender. Those who use a blender will produce a sauce with a smooth texture. Sambal seeds are generally not found in this type of aqual. Instead you will find a lot of chili seeds on the sauce hand-held results.
How to store the sauce is to put in the refrigerator. However, if you are already using a sauce with the sense of taking it with a spoon to eat you should not save the sauce again because the fear will be damaged. To prevent this you should immediately separate the sauce when the beginning before eating so that the stored sauce is not dirty or exposed to other foods.


Funtion :
The main use of chili is as a food supplement. Of course, the flavor is none other than spicy. However, for those who add a lot of mixture, will cause a reduction of the spicy taste itself. Some people use sambal just to add flavor when the dish they eat will not have the dominant taste.
Sambal is very famous and growing in Indonesia. Indonesian people who plan to leave the country do not escape carrying chili as their provisions. Many Indonesian people who live outside the country to open a sambal business. In Indonesia alone the use of sambal almost intended for all kinds of dishes ranging from side dishes to fresh vegetables.

1. Not all sambal use terasi.
Wich one sambal tomato, does not use terasi, but you can add a lot of tomatoes to taste sweet and sour.
